CASE STUDY

Buckinghamshire House

A contemporary extension in Buckinghamshire

An extension to a large family home in Buckinghamshire was completed this Summer which featured various contemporary Sieger® Systems installations. The extension was designed with the original proportions of the home in mind in order to create a subtle addition that blended nicely with the existing building fabric.

The spacious family home benefitted from many existing large window and door systems, including a patio door arrangement to one side of the property. However, the homeowners sought to build a stronger connection to their garden through a tasteful and subtle extension at the rear of the property.

Internally, the ground floor living spaces were extended to create a large open-plan kitchen/dining room and living space that benefitted from a beautiful influx of natural light from the newly installed Sieger® glazing systems. By opening up the living space in this way, the homeowners can enjoy an indoor-outdoor living environment with a seamless transition between these spaces through the flush aluminium glass sliding doors.

To further enhance the levels of light within the property, a Sieger® 40 roof lantern was installed. The slim design of this aluminium roof lantern enables the home to benefit from a contemporary feature that is in keeping with the whole home extension project.

Testimonial

Aluminium windows and doors from Sieger® Systems maintain impressive levels of thermal performance while pushing the boundaries of contemporary architectural design, due to the slim aluminium frames.

During this project the Sieger® contracts team worked closely with the builder to overcome the challenge of installing aluminium sliding doors with uneven sliding panes meeting each other; because with this design, there was a two-track sliding door meeting a three-track sliding door. With the Sieger® Slim Sliding Door, uneven numbers of sliding doors can be designed to meet each other at a corner joint to suit the design of buildings that have an opening with one side wider than the other.

The Sieger® Slim Sliding Door boasts an outstanding sightline of only 20mm, one of the most minimal sightlines available on the market. Slim sightlines like these enable the occupants to enjoy outstanding views of the garden and surrounding landscape with minimal visual obstruction. Another impressive feature of these slimline aluminium sliding doors is the ability to hide the top and side framed within the finishes of the ceiling and walls finishes.

Alongside the slim sliders, 2 slim framed windows arrangements were installed. These aluminium window arrangements used the award-winning Sieger® Casement Window system to continue the slim framed aesthetic seen with the slim sliders. The window configurations were varied, with one set featuring fixed panes and the other with top hung aluminium windows.

This architectural design successfully continues the existing finish of the property while injecting a sense of modernity. By using Sieger® aluminium windows and doors, the homeowners were able to achieve beautifully uninterrupted views of their garden and the highly sought-after indoor-outdoor living environment.
