CASE STUDY

Apartment Engomi

When this new build apartment block in Cyprus was being designed, ensuring the residents had space to relax in the sun and get fresh air was vital.

This block of studio apartments was designed to have the balcony space within the perimeter of the apartment, with the internal living space wrapped around in an ‘L’ shape.

Rather than using the space to create slightly larger apartments, each apartment has its own private balcony. The balcony is encompassed by multiple Sieger Slim Sliding Door systems allowing light to flow through freely.

These studio apartments benefit from a relatively large balcony area, and by sliding the doors opens the balcony and internal space can be merged to create one bright, well-ventilated, indoor-outdoor living area.

High levels of ventilation allow the space to maintain a comfortable living temperature all year round. The balconies are protected by fixed panels that act as a solar shading solution whilst providing a certain level of weather protection against wind and rain.

Indoor-Outdoor Living

Indoor-outdoor living spaces have become extremely popular due to the calm atmosphere that natural light and fresh air brings.

Internally the interior design style is pretty minimal apart from a feature wall in each studio. The light internal design style is seen in the bright walls, floor and ceiling which all work alongside the influx of natural light to help the space look and feel bigger.

The slim framed aluminium door systems allow in natural light whether they are open or closed thanks to the minimal sightlines.

Each frame was finished with a white polyester powder coating to enable the systems to blend in with the surrounding building finishes for a minimal and contemporary aesthetic.

Externally the building has a rather unique design using geometric shapes. The building is almost split into two sections with glass links in the centre.
