Blending Heritage and Modern Design at Swakleys Road with Replacement Bay Windows
Swakleys is a period residence that beautifully showcases traditional architectural elements. The front facade features new replacement bay windows, with intricate leaded glass panes and exposed timber beams; this home certainly has historical charm. When the homeowner decided to renovate, he aimed to make his living spaces more functional whilst preserving this heritage.
Sieger Systems was tasked with both replacing the bay windows at the front and opening up the rear of this home with Sieger slim sliding doors, to create a seamless connection with the garden. Embracing contemporary living without altering the property’s traditional frontage, we supplied glazing solutions that introduce natural light and expansive views, all while complementing the existing architecture.
Project Highlight
“Detailed technical drawings and coordinated delivery ensured a smooth installation process.”
At the front of the property, the existing bay windows were upgraded with replacement bay windows. These aluminium windows were designed to recreate the original style, maintaining the home’s historical appearance while enhancing performance. By using high-quality aluminium frames, we improved thermal efficiency and durability, ensuring the new windows would stand the test of time.
For the rear of the property, Sieger Systems supplied two sets of Keller minimal windows® sliding doors:
- Three-Track Sliding Door: Measuring 3780mm in width and 2590mm in height, featuring a fixed panel on the left and two sliding panels. This configuration allows ample natural light to flood into the living area and provides easy access to the garden.
- Four-Track Sliding Door: Measuring 5485mm in width and 2590mm in height, with a fixed panel on the right and three sliding panels. This expansive door creates a wide opening that connects indoor and outdoor spaces, perfect for modern living.
The sliding doors were finished in RAL 9011 matt, offering a stylish, contemporary look that complements the property’s style. We incorporated solar control glass (SN70) for enhanced thermal performance and included internal key locking systems for security. Slot aeration was also integrated to allow controlled ventilation without compromising the minimalist design.
The new replacement bay windows have rejuvenated the front facade, preserving the historical charm while offering improved insulation and durability. At the rear, the sliding doors have significantly improved the living experience within the home. The large glass panels offer uninterrupted views of the garden and increase natural light inside, making the interior spaces feel more open and connected to the outdoors. This modern addition enhances functionality and aligns with contemporary living standards, all while preserving the property’s traditional front facade.
The homeowner was delighted with the outcome. The home now offers the best of both worlds: historical charm with the replacement bay windows at the front, and modern comfort at the back.
