CASE STUDY

Dolphin Quay

Residential development in a conservation area featuring two contemporary units which benefit from specialist Sieger glazing packages.

This stunning residential development in Dolphin Quay, Emsworth, features six housing units. Four of the units follow traditional style architecture with red brick detailing, and two were designed as contemporary bespoke houses.

The two contemporary builds which sit on the edge of Mill Pond featured specialist glazing packages that used Sieger’s slim framed aluminium systems for a modern and minimal design.

Located within a conservation area, within flood zone three and surrounded by three listed buildings, this development faced many challenges and had to ensure the character of the landscape was not altered.

The materials selected for the exterior of the two water edge contemporary properties include a wraparound metal façade, timber cladding and grey brick.

Specifically chosen to reflect the industrial boat yard the home looks out onto, these materials mimic nature and avoid bold colours which enables the building to work in harmony with the surrounding area.

The external building finishes on the two modern units contrast beautifully with the traditional architecture of the surrounding listed buildings.

Marine Glazing

The slim aluminium frames were pre-anodised and finished with a dark grey PPC to protect then against the harsh air whilst blending in with the external building finishes.

The two bespoke waterfront properties use Sieger entrance doors which offer high levels of security whilst achieving a modern aesthetic. Both slim sliding doors and bifolding doors were used at various point around the property, as well as Sieger casement windows and doors. The external balcony areas are protected by frameless glass balustrades which allow natural light to flow through into the homes without disrupting the views of the quay.

In order to maximise the breathtaking water views, gable end windows were installed at the peaks of the contemporary properties to ensure the flow of natural light was not blocked. Ultra slim aluminium frames on Sieger’s glazing systems also aided in maximising the influx of natural light.

The slim aluminium frames on all Sieger glazing solutions were finished in a dark grey polyester powder coating to enable the glazing to blend in seamlessly with the rest of the external building finishes. Low iron glass and anti-reflective glass were specified for various glazing elements around the build to create near invisible glazing solutions that offer high clarity views.

Sieger uses marine grade polyester powder coating as standard, and the glazing for this project has pre-anodised frames with a polyester powder coating for maximum protection against the harsh marine air.

IQ Glass, Sieger’s glazing partner, provided a design and installation service for this development using Sieger aluminium glazing systems.
